Old Fashioned Apple Crisp

This easy old-fashioned apple crisp recipe features tender cinnamon apples and a brown sugar oat crumble. Best served with vanilla ice cream!

Instructions

  • Pre-heat the oven to 375° F.

Apple Filling -

  • Wash, core, peel, and slice the apples into a large bowl.
  • Stir the melted butter, sour cream, and lemon juice into the apples.
  • Mix in the sugar, brown sugar, salt, corn starch, and cinnamon, 'til everything is mixed well.
  • Pour the apple mixture into an 8x8 or 7x9 baking dish and set aside.

Topping -

  • In a separate large bowl, mix together the oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Using a pastry blender, cut the butter into the oat mixture 'til the mixture is moist but very crumbly.
  • Crumble the topping over the apples in the baking dish.
  • Bake at 375° F for about 1 hour, or 'til the top is a deep golden brown. Remove the crisp from the oven and allow to cool.
  • Serve while slightly warm with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
