Ingredients

Instructions

  • In a small bowl, whip the heavy cream with a hand mixer 'til it forms soft peaks, about 2-3 minutes.
  • In a separate large bowl, mix together the mayo, lemon juice, sugar, salt, and pepper.
  • Gently fold the whipped cream into the dressing 'til the mixture is smooth and fluffy.
  • Fold the celery, grapes, walnuts, and apples into the dressing.
  • Cover and chill for 1-2 hours, or overnight if possible.
  • Serve on lettuce leaves, or with crackers and cheese.

Notes

*I always dice and add the apples last, so less time for them to brown.
How far in advance can you make Waldorf salad?
It's best made a couple of hours ahead, or the night before, so it has time to chill. If you need to make it more than 24 hours ahead, keep the fruit and celery in one airtight container, the walnuts in another, and the dressing in a third, then fold everything together 1-2 hours before serving. To keep the apples from browning while they wait, toss them with an extra tablespoon of lemon juice. Stored separately, they'll keep up to 2 days in the fridge."
