Are you a true Disney fan? Then you've probably heard the news.
On February 11, the Blu-Ray/Combo Pack Diamond Edition release of The Jungle Book will be available for purchase at Walmart.
This couldn't have come at a better time, as we actually just picked up the book at the library for our book basket with school.
To celebrate the release, I have a special recipe that I'm really excited to share with you.
Jungle Book Movie Themed Fruit Tray Recipe and Tutorial
This recipe is definitely a healthy recipe and makes for a great snack to accompany the movie. When fresh fruit comes out, especially berries and pineapple and melon, my boys get really excited.
I actually picked up everything I needed while on my normal grocery run at Walmart. I'd kinda put a list together before I went, but I had fun with this, browsing through the fruit to see if there were other kinds we would enjoy.
Below you'll find a printable recipe with all the ingredients needed.
I'll start with a tip…. It's a good idea to use a cookie sheet so any juice can be contained and won't make a complete mess. Plus, a cookie sheet allows you to carry the fruit tray from room to room pretty easily.
The first step, and one I like to stress, is to wash and rinse all of your fruit carefully; I like to soak all of our fruit and veggies in a vinegar/water bath. You'd be amazed at the dirt in the water after soaking for about 10 minutes.
Cut the top off the watermelon and the top off the pineapple; core the pinapple.
Use a melon baller to scoop out the watermelon and pineapple chunks; drain any juice within the rind.
Be sure to save out a few strawberries, blueberries, and a kiwi for use on the tray. Stem and slice a few strawberries; also peel and slice bananas and kiwi for fruit salad.
Then add fruit to empty watermelon rind. We added strawberries, bananas, blueberries, grapes, kiwi, melon, and pineapple.
Add yogurt to pineapple bowl. You can also add a couple of celery stalks to the pineapple to serve as trees.
Create a pond or lake, of sorts, out of blueberries. Add whole strawberries to serve as boulders around your lake and your pineapple. Cut parsley and add to tray; this'll help to decorate the “jungle floor.”
Finally, make “ants on a log” by cutting celery stalks and adding peanut butter with raisins. This is one of my boys' favorite snacks.
When you're all done, if you have leftover fruit, you can add things here and there for extra decor. Maybe make a boulder or even a little statue out of a kiwi.
The possibilities are endless. Originally, we thought of making the pineapple into a volcano, but I'm pretty happy with the way it all turned out.
The fruit and yogurt can be scooped into serving bowls or cups. Kids will love the sweetness of the fresh fruit; parents will enjoy how healthy this snack actually is.
Enjoy! And if you love this jungle themed fruit tray, you may also enjoy this yummy ambrosia fruit salad.
Tip: When all is said and done, you can actually take the parsley and dry it if you have a dehydrator.

This looks fantastic! Perfect for a family movie night with The Jungle Book!
Thank you, Heather!
Oh my gosh this is amazing!
Adelina, thank you!
I love this post! I do fruit trays all summer long and I am always looking for new ways and concepts to present. This is an amazing way to get kids loving the idea of fresh fruit and veggies and having fun with The Jungle Book. I cannot wait to have a Jungle Book party with my little crew (lots of nieces and nephews around these parts). Best post in a while.
Elizabeth, thank you so much! It was so fun to make, and the kids loved having the fresh fruit to snack on.
This is SO cute, Mel! My boys would LOVE to eat your adorable #JungleFresh snack! Thanks for sharing such a great Jungle Book-inspired idea! #client
Thanks so much, Sara!
Oh my stars…this is GREAT Mel. I bet I could even get picky little Bubby to pick at some of this while watching The Jungle Book. So clever!
Thank you so much, Christy! It was a lot of fun to make…. I bet he’d pick at it for sure. Jaden’s pretty picky, but he loves the ants on a log, and of course, if it’s fruit, he’s right there pigging out on it.
Love the ants on a log! So cute & creative. This whole idea is great – can’t think of a better way for my kids to enjoy their fruit!
Thanks so much, Stephanie! It is really fun to make, and your kids will love it!
