We love finding “off the beaten path” places to stay and visit, so when we started looking for beach towns in South Texas, Port Aransas became our destination of choice. After reading reviews on TripAdvisor, all of which were positive, I called to reserve a two bedroom suite at 3rd Coast Inn.
This tiny inn is family-owned and is probably the most charming place we’ve stayed at yet. They really make it so comfortable and enjoyable for every guest.
The inn has only 7 rooms, each of which are decorated to the hilt in charming island colors and decor. When we first pulled in, we noticed lots of vegetation from flowering bushes to flowers and plants. The parking area is quite small, so a few cars park closer to the road, though the preferred method of transportation on the island is a golf cart anyway. Outside the office are several bikes, large and small, one for every age. Around the corner is a peaceful sitting area, a nice place to sit and chat and just enjoy the sounds of tropical music playing in the background. The moment we stepped out of our car, we were already beginning to feel the effects of total relaxation. I’ll be honest and say that from the road, the inn doesn’t look so impressive…. but give it a chance, and its charm immediately takes over.
Even the outside of the inn is brightly colored with colorful beach chairs gracing the stoop outside each room. We stayed in room #4, which seemed to have a hot pink theme. We had a bedroom for the boys, with television and full-sized bed, as soon as we walked in the door; around the corner was the master bedroom with a queen sized bed. We walked through a doorway to the kitchen, equipped with sink, cabinets, dishes, stove/oven, and refrigerator. The dining table was all set up and ready for meals. Through the kitchen, you can step into either the master bedroom or the bathroom. The bathroom was a very bright pink color and had a pedestal sink and a small stand-up shower. The shower was a bit challenging because of the size, but the entire space really kinda grew on us. Personally, I loved the island decor with lighthouses, birds, seashells, etc. Some of the pictures even had sayings geared toward a laid back lifestyle on the island.
Of course, the inn also had a nice pool area with hot tub. The pool area had tables and chairs, barbecue grills, a hammock, towels, pool toys, and more. It was equipped for a very good time.
3rd Coast Inn has several amenities, including free Wi-Fi, cable television, bikes, air conditioning and heat, etc. They allow pets, for a fee. The inn is also only 3 blocks from the beautiful Port Aransas Beach. Room rates are very affordable, with 2 bedroom suites starting at $139.
If you’re ever down Port Aransas way, 3rd Coast Inn is definitely my recommendation for a family-owned, local place to totally relax and enjoy a bit of island life. I have a feeling Port Aransas will be a place our family visits year after year, as we totally fell in love with the island.
